Entrance to Milford Sound from the Tasman Sea. James Cook, who bypassed Milford Sound on his journeys feared venturing too close to the steep mountainsides, afraid that wind conditions would prevent escape ( Actually its a Fjord not a Sound.) The Sound wasn't discovered until much later in the 1800's because of this.
One of my favorite shots of the night sky in New Zealand. I didn't get an opportunity to do much night shooting due to cloudy skies. but this night on my way back from Wanaka the skies cooperated.
This is a section of the Milky Way that is not normally visible to the Northern hemisphere. The Southern Cross is visible in the center of the photo. The Greater Magellanic cloud is upper right.
